“And What Do You Do?”

One day in the late 80’s, I went to an early morning Mass with my mother at a Jesuit cathedral high up on a hill in San Francisco.  After the Mass, as she was wont to do at many a Mass over many a year, my mother went up to speak to the priest and thank him. She expressed and congratulated him for whatever she appreciated about the Mass—the quality of the sermon, the way he articulated or projected his words so all could hear, the feeling he put into it. After a few minutes speaking to my mother, he turned to me and asked, “And what do you do?”

Having been on the Mother Divine Program for about six years by that point, I proceeded to tell him a bit about it—about my intent for gaining enlightenment, the fun of being part of a group quietly creating coherence and bliss for the world, and my growing love for the Vedic tradition of knowledge.

Go For It

This priest said: “Wonderful, go for it. And may I urge you to always consider how Christ’s message fits into this Vedic tradition you are learning about.”

I replied, “Oh yes, Father, I am constantly doing that. I see so many relationships between the two. I’m finding it to be so natural with the practice of Transcendental Meditation to experience the Kingdom of Heaven within. I had not known there was so much love and light and happiness inside us all, and it really bubbles up with this technique!”

He blessed me with a kind twinkle in his eye, and my mother and I went on our merry way that day.

A Poem Bursts Out of Inner Joy

A few years later in 1991, on one sunny Easter and Passover day when I was back in the abode of Mother Divine in Holland, I wrote this poem “Easter People”. It seemed to burst out of a deep well of inner joy and helped me to express and own some of the profound principles I was learning from Maharishi Vedic Science—and to integrate them with the Judeo-Christian religious tradition.

I can’t help but feel that that kind and nourishing priest would be pleased. And I can only imagine that if I were able to sit down and talk with him today, what an amazing and insightful conversation we would have.

Enjoy the poem!

And stay tuned for a whole new wave of nourishing, elevating, and expansive blogs and vlogs (videos) by Mother Divine. We want to fill the world with expressions of Heaven on Earth.
